Centre for Research in the Humanities

English summary
This page only contains a quick summary of a small portion of the web site. The centre's project manager will be happy to answer any questions sent to her.

The Centre's Role
The Centre for Research in the Humanities provides a common forum for research, research education and research related activities at the School of Humanities. The Centre was founded in an effort to strengthen research, and to coordinate the activities of five research institutes associated with the School.

Faculty members in the School of Humanities, adjuncts and graduate students are fellows in the Centre and entitled to its services.

Institutes
The Centre is committed to interdisciplinary research and seeks to sponsor cooperation and research projects involving scholars in different fields. The Centre publishes a journal in Icelandic for that purpose and holds annual Humanities conferences.

The Centre is an umbrella organisation for the following five institutes:

     Institute of Literary Research
     Institute of Philosophy
     Institute of Linguistics (in english)
     Institute of History
Vigdis Finnbogadottir Institute of Foreign Languages

The disciplinary institutes have a strong research profile and are well known for their publications. The institute for literary research is now the publisher of the series Studia Islandica, in which works in Icelandic studies have been published since 1940.

The director of the Centre works with the chairpersons of the disciplinary institutes and with the board of the Centre fulfilling administrative and academic tasks.

The centre is located on the top floor in the main building (Aðalbygging).
